Audit and Quality in UK Ophthalmology
October 2006

At the FIPO meeting on 17th October 2006 Mr. Christopher Bentley, Consultant Ophthalmologist, gave the following presentation:

Slide Presentation

This is record of the high standards in British ophthalmology and also confirms a high level of patient satisfaction. There have been remarkable improvements in audit results. These are best shown in slides 6 and 7 that compare a large recent study from the WEH (Western Ophthalmic Hospital, London) with another Royal College of Ophthalmology study from 1997.

This presentation also demonstrates the fact that there are many guidelines already in place for ophthalmology (slide 9) which makes the need for external and new insurance driven audits rather superfluous. The patient satisfaction scores from the recent audit from the Western Ophthalmic Hospital showed 89% were delighted; 11% simply satisfied; no patients were dissatisfied. These studies at the Western Ophthalmic Hospital are being submitted for publication by a team headed by Mr Philip Bloom, Consultant Ophthalmologist.
